"I’ll take Portland...even the rain.”
Chris considers himself a near native Oregonian. He started school here and dirtied his hands with dye stain and lacquer thinner at an early age, helping in his Dad's wood finishing shop. But even as a kid, he loved weather and proclaimed (fully, at age five) to everyone and anyone who would listen that he wanted to be a meteorologist.
A move to Philadelphia saw him through high school and college. He was fortunate to pursue two of his passions (weather and running) on a track scholarship to Penn State University. During his summers he interned at local Portland TV stations, stocked shelves at Zupan's, and hammered out runs on the trails of Forrest Park.
After earning his meteorology degree, he was off to the TV news business. A tour of the Midwest took him to stations in Rock Island, Davenport and Milwaukee. Chris is a member of the American Meteorological Society and was nominated for best weathercast three times by the Wisconsin Broadcaster's Association during his tenure in Milwaukee. "After ten years of tornados, blizzards and bitter cold...I'll take Portland, and the rain"
Chris is an avid outdoor enthusiast, dabbles in cooking and music, but mostly likes to run...a lot. He's currently logging 80+ miles a week in preparation for his sixth Hood to Coast and fourth marathon (Portland, this fall). If you run into him on the Wildwood Trail, be sure to say hi.
You can catch Chris filling in on various newscasts here in the KOIN Local 6 PinPoint Weather Center.
