To say he hit the career ground running would be an understatement.  By his early 20s, reporter Eric Taylor had already worked in newsrooms for three different network affiliates.

Eric landed in Portland in 1996 and has toured the far reaches of Oregon covering news for KOIN Local 6. You can watch him weekdays at noon, 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

While he spent most of his years in Seattle, Eric now considers the Rose City his home -- something he says that makes all the difference in how he approaches stories.

When asked about his favorite moments at KOIN, Eric said covering presidential campaigns, climbing Mount St. Helens on the 20th anniversary of the 1980 eruption and interviewing members of the rock band U2 top the list.

Eric, a graduate of Seattle Pacific University, is an avid reader who loves hiking and swimming.  On a "good day" you can find him working out or swimming laps at his local pool.  He says the exercise offsets his fondness for local Microbrews.

Eric has family throughout the Northwest and Canada and met his wife at a local church where they continue to be active.

Growing up with the nickname "E.T.", Eric is what they call a "P.K.", short for pastor's kid.  Wearing a devilish grin, Eric will tell you his baby sitters were put to the test.   Now it's his turn.  A proud father of two young girls and now a son, Eric is quick on the draw with baby pictures and a clean diaper.

You can e-mail Eric at etaylor@koin.com.

Eric marks the first day of school 2009

I remember my news department co-workers coming in late to morning editorial in the fall all misty-eyed over the first day of school.  In my 20-something whipper-snapper brain I didn’t get it – I mean “Aren’t you glad to get a break from the little rug rats?” I would be. . .

Well, fast-forward 13 years and the tables have turned - I came in today holding back some emotions after returning my second-grader to public school (after a year of homeschooling).

Tomorrow it will be my Kindergartner.  After saying a little prayer, after thinking positive thoughts and checking for hand-sanitizer, I walked out of the school with mixed emotions. What a time to be a second-grader. What a time to be a dad. I’m not half as scared of H1N1 as I am of them growing up too fast.

On behalf of KOIN Local 6, Happy Back to School Day!
