It might sound weird, but Sally Showman loves the rain. She loves the sound of it, the smell of it and the comfort of a cozy, rainy day. Maybe it’s because she’s a native north westerner.
Sally grew up in Seattle but comes to Portland from Spokane, Washington where she was a weekend weather anchor at the ABC station. Her first television job was in Idaho Falls.
When Sally first started doing weather, it seemed that whenever she worked Mother Nature unloaded everything she had on the area: a tornado, blizzards, severe thunderstorms. It was as if she was saying, "Sally's doing weather tonight, let's throw her a curve ball." The anchors then hung the nickname "Bad Omen Showman" on her, and it stuck. It's kept her on her toes and made her a great forecaster!
Curious by nature, Sally is fascinated by both the weather and the world around her. She’s an Emmy award winning journalist, with a passion for telling stories.
Sally graduated from Santa Clara University with a degree in Journalism. Four years wasn’t enough for her so she’s back at it again. She will graduate from Mississippi State University with a degree in Meteorology in 2012.
Outside of work, Sally loves to be outside. She loves to run, hike and ski. She’s finished several half marathons and plans to run her first full marathon this fall right here in Portland.
You can catch Sally on KOIN Saturdays and Sundays at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., she reports for various newscasts during the week.
