Arm and leg pain
Arm and leg pain can be caused by many different conditions. If you experience sudden numbness in your arms or legs, especially if the numbness is on one side, you should have a medical exam immediately to rule out the possibility of a stroke.
Bursitis
Bursitis (ber-SYE-tis) is the inflammation of the bursa, which are fluid-filled cavities in the joints where tendons and muscles pass over bone. The bursa help reduce friction between moving parts, but their inflammation can cause pain and limit movement.
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome refers to a condition in which the median nerve in the wrist is compressed. The pressure on the nerve can cause painful and debilitating problems if left untreated.
Numbness/tingling
Numbness and tingling in the limbs can indicate a serious medical condition such as a stroke, so if these symptoms suddenly develop, you should have a medical exam immediately.
Overuse injuries
Like the parts of a machine, the joints in your body can break down when used too much or improperly. Repetitive motions such as throwing a ball with the same arm, or performing the same task with your hands for extended periods can cause the joint to wear down.
What about my shoes?
Standing for long periods of time, constrictive shoes, shoes with high heels, and shoes with poor soles can all lead to foot, ankle, and back pain. A chiropractor may want to know what kind of shoes you wear regularly if you complain of pain in your feet and ankles.
