There are many household pests more dangerous than scorpions, but few are more frightening. Scorpions can grow up to three inches long, with nasty-looking pincers in front and a stinger on their tail. In reality, they aren't really all that bad. They have poor eyesight, and use their pincers primarily for feeling their way around. The sting of a scorpion is no worse than that of a bee. Unless you're allergic, they should not present a serious problem. Outdoors, the scorpion is a largely beneficial insect, feeding on more harmful pests. Indoors, they prefer to hide in bathrooms and closets, coming out only at night. One of their favorite hiding places, as many people have discovered, is inside shoes. Discovering them there is not a pleasant experience. If you have scorpions in your home, it's a good idea to call a professional pest control service. They may be able to remove the scorpions to the outdoors where they belong, as well as checking your home for the tiny cracks that allowed them to invade in the first place.
