A hook is a shot that curves away to the left of a right-handed golfer or to the right of a left-handed golfer during the golf ball's flight. This is caused by excessive spin on the ball and an inside-to-outside swing. This type of swing begins close to the body, swinging out and away as the swing ends. The excessive spin is actually a counter-clockwise spin, which is what gives the ball its curve. Correcting this problem is relatively simple. The source of the problem often lies in your hip and shoulder movement during the swing. These movements need to be corrected for an even swing across the body. The best way to identify your problem, and correct it, involves having a golf professional watch you practice and offer constructive feedback.
