MILWAUKIE, ORE- Vets believe a dog found barely alive in a dumpster at a Milwaukie apartment complex was likely abused.  Dr. Kathleen Keenan with DoveLewis animal hospital says the dog suffered from major head trauma possibly from being kicked or beaten in the head.

Milwaukie police were called to the apartment complex at 10489 SE 23rd Sunday night after a resident found the small, light brown miniature pinscher in a plastic bag in the dumpster.

Mike Meyers was taking out the trash when he heard a dog whining and then realized it was coming from the dumpster.  "I pulled the bag off the dog and it was all bloody and you could tell it was really hurt," says Meyers.

The male dog, which was about 5 years old was rushed to DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital at Mall 205.  In addition to severe head injuries the dog also had a dislocated elbow.  Even after treatment the dog remained unresponsive.  Vets ultimately euthanized the dog.

Police do not know who owns the dog or who may have abused him.  The dog was not wearing any tags and did not have a microchip.

Milwaukie Police are investigating the animal abuse case.  Crime Stoppers is offering up to a 1,000 dollar reward for information that leads to an arrest.  You can submit a tip by calling 503-823-HELP.  You can also leave a tip online at www.crimestoppersoforegon.com or text 823 plus your tip and send it to CRIMES (274697).
