Rescue crews searching for a 32-year-old Tigard man missing on Mount Hood reportedly found his body beneath some cliffs Tuesday morning.

Jared Townsley left home at midnight Sunday to summit the mountain and his remains were found at an elevation of about 9,200 feet.

According to Sgt. James Rhodes, spokesman for the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), his brother reported him missing when he did not return home Monday morning. CCSO reports that he was last seen by other climbers at approximately 8:30 a.m. on his way down from Crater Rock.

Townsley's family told authorities that he was an experienced climber and this was his seventh time summiting Mount Hood solo. He leaves behind his wife, Charlotte, and two children.

The first reports of discovering his remains came in around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and authorities believe he likely suffered a "severe fall."

An official state autopsy will determine the cause of death.

This discovery comes after a climber survived a 300-foot fall off a glacier on Mount Hood Sunday morning.

Portland Mountain Rescue and Mountain Wave Search & Rescue assisted CCSO with the search.

estkrtrsh, To the best of my knowledge they only found the 1 in the snow/ice cave, the other two are still missing. As for climbing at night that is the most safe time to do it. The three went up with a known storm front moving in, then this one was apparently climbing without Crampons.

Did they evev find those guys who died in an ice cave a few years back? Goes like this, "Hey guys let's go climb to the top of Mt Hood or Adams in the dead of winter. Why wait till next fall when the air is clear and there is not so much snow lets go now it's February".

So preventable. So unnecessary. As if he had a death wish. Incomprehensible recklessness. And to think seven times over doing this SOLO put him in a position of being in imminent peril - each and every time. Especially choosing to climb at night. You bet - climbing in our national forests needs to be regulated and scrutinized. If climbers cannot volunteer to partner up and safely climb - and utilize locator beacons, then the government must REQUIRE climbers do so - or be denied the privilege of accessing public lands.

Ok lets look at it this way. You are required by law to have a drivers license AND liability insurance to drive a car , yes? So why not make it a law that when you climb the mountains here in oregon that you are required to RENT a M.L.U.? This guy was an "experienced" climber? So was those three from New York and AZ?
