Rescue crews searching for a 32-year-old Tigard man missing on Mount Hood reportedly found his body beneath some cliffs Tuesday morning.
Jared Townsley left home at midnight Sunday to summit the mountain and his remains were found at an elevation of about 9,200 feet.
According to Sgt. James Rhodes, spokesman for the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), his brother reported him missing when he did not return home Monday morning. CCSO reports that he was last seen by other climbers at approximately 8:30 a.m. on his way down from Crater Rock.
Townsley's family told authorities that he was an experienced climber and this was his seventh time summiting Mount Hood solo. He leaves behind his wife, Charlotte, and two children.
The first reports of discovering his remains came in around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and authorities believe he likely suffered a "severe fall."
An official state autopsy will determine the cause of death.
This discovery comes after a climber
survived a 300-foot fall off a glacier on Mount Hood Sunday morning.
Portland Mountain Rescue and
Mountain Wave Search & Rescue assisted CCSO with the search.
