Just about everyone saw snowflakes on Sunday! Snow showers left light accumulations on the valley floor (0.5” at Portland International Airport) and the snow really piled up in the mountains (12” at Ski Bowl and Mt. Hood Meadows).
Showers taper off Sunday night. The main concern for the Monday morning commute will be slick roads. Just about everyone in the I-5 corridor will drop below freezing Sunday night and many local roads are damp after Sunday’s snow.
After a mostly dry start to the day, snow showers pick up later Monday as another disturbance swings down the coast and into the northwest. The valley could see a dusting here and there and above 500’-1,000’ people could see a few inches.
On Tuesday the snow will switch to rain and that transition could be messy. We’re keeping a close eye on the timing that milder air moves in and switches the snow over to heavy rain.
The rest of next week looks wet and windy at times. Winter has returned to the northwest!
Here's what to expect Monday:
Coast: Scattered snow or rain showers in the morning, with more widespread shower activity later in the day into Monday evening. Snow accumulation: a dusting on the beaches and up to 2” inland Monday night into Tuesday. Breezy. Winds: 10-25 mph
I-5 Corridor/Willamette Valley: A slick start to the day on the roads. A few snow showers are possible early on- showers will pick up in the afternoon or early evening. Breezy. 2”-4” possible Monday night into Tuesday above 1,000’. Highs: 38-42
Gorge: A slick start. Snow and rain showers by afternoon. Accumulation up to 2”. Breezy west winds: 15-25mph. Highs: 37-42.
Cascades: Scattered snow showers, breezy. By Tuesday morning ski resorts could see another foot of fresh snow. Highs: 23-27.
Central/Eastern Oregon: Scattered snow showers and breezy. Highs: 29-38.
