Actor Daniel Baldwin speaks about the safety of his children, hopes wife gets help
Actor Daniel Baldwin, who recently filed for divorce and was granted a restraining order against his wife, gave an interview for the first time since she was arrested.
Daniel, 50, the second-oldest of four famous Baldwin brothers, joined KOIN Studio 6 Friday to talk about his family ordeal, which he said includes his wife, Joanne Baldwin, threatening to kill him in front of the couple's two young children.
"My children are frightened," Baldwin told Jenny Hansson.
Joanne was arrested Wednesday night for violating parole on a drunken driving conviction and will remain in a Clackamas County Jail until a hearing Wednesday.
Baldwin, who has lived with his wife since 2006, said Joanne says things when she's inebriated that "you wouldn't believe." He filed for divorce Tuesday.
Baldwin said threats Joanne made were overheard by the couple's two children, the older of whom later asked him "Is mommy going to kill us?"
The Lake Oswego resident, who is himself sober, said he hopes his wife gets treatment and will be there for her if she does.
"I want nothing more than for her to get help," he said. "I want nothing more than to go into those family programs and hold her hand during it should she decide to do it."
Baldwin reiterated his responsibility is to his children no matter what happens with Joanne.
"This has nothing to do with how I feel about my wife, this is about what I have to do to secure the safety and the ongoing fear that goes on in that home."
When Jenny Hansson asked Baldwin how optimistic he was about his wife turning things around he paused before saying: "It doesn't sound yet like she gets it."
