A traffic stop in Milwaukie Thursday morning resulted in the arrest of a man accused of breaking into a Beaverton car dealership overnight and stealing a Ford Mustang and 220 car keys.
According to the Beaverton Police Department (BPD), just after 7 a.m. a manager at Damerow Ford on Southwest Canyon Road reported arriving to find that a break-in had occurred, an office had been ransacked, and a $58,000 2012 Shelby Mustang had been stolen.
Meanwhile, at about 5 a.m. Milwaukie police stopped a 2012 Mustang for allegedly speeding and having no license plates. The driver fled on foot, but was quickly caught. Officers found Damerow license plates and hundreds of car keys inside the vehicle. All the stolen items were recovered, and the Mustang was not damaged.
BPD reports that the keys contained microchips, and would have cost an estimated $100,000 to replace.
Robert L. Bourne, 41, of Vancouver, was arrested on aggravated theft in the first degree, unauthorized use of a vehicle, burglary in the second degree, possession of a stolen vehicle and criminal mischief. He is lodged in the Washington County Jail.
