Over 30 TriMet bus shelters have had glass panels broken out in the past week, costing the transit agency thousands of dollars in repair costs.
Most of the damage has been at stops on Portland's eastside, with only three instances happening on routes along the Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway.
Some of the shelters are being damaged after a fresh panel was put in, causing
TriMet to consider using metal replacements instead.
The total costs to fix all of the shelters ranges from $16,000 to $32,000, according to spokeswoman Roberta Altstadt.
In Southeast Portland, Hawthorne Street and Powell Boulevard are two of the more victimized roads, with five and 10 damaged bus shelters, respectively.
Officers with the transit police division are investigating. Officials presently do not know how the panels are being destroyed.
TriMet decided to offer a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information is asked to call 503-238-RIDE.
