PORTLAND, Ore. -- A little Chihuahua who took off running after a car crash in Northwest Portland was miraculously reunited with her owners after spending six days in the West Hills before someone found her.
"I thought that she didn't stand a chance," said owner Angela Lee, "But I didn't want to believe that."
Lee was driving her son to school one morning earlier this month when they decided to take their Chihuahua, Chica, along for the car ride.
Then the family got into a head-on crash on Germantown Road. The impact was so bad the front windshield shattered, allowing Chica a way to escape.
No one in the crash was seriously hurt but more than a week went by before Angela heard anything about Chica.
Then she got word that a family had found the dog in their garage, cold and hungry, six days after she disappeared. The family waited several days and then they took Chica to the
Multnomah County Animal Shelter, where employees discovered the dog's microchip and called Lee.
No one will ever know what Chica went through for almost a week in the wild.
"If she could talk and tell us, she would probably have a big story for us," said Lee.
