23-year-old Cameron Scott Matta is accused of throwing a firework at a police officer during Sunday morning's Occupy protests. Nov. 13, 2011. (Multnomah County Sheriff's Office)
A man is under arrest after a police officer was injured during a clash with Occupy Portland protesters when an incendiary device was thrown at a group of mounted riot officers early Sunday morning.

Sometime after 1:30 a.m., what looked like a firework was thrown into a group of mounted officers who were trying to push the crowd off Main Street.

A few moments later, police pulled a man out of the crowd and arrested him. He was identified as 23-year-old Cameron Scott Matta.

The officer, who was not on a horse when he was hit by the device, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. He is expected to be OK, according to Portland police.

Matta was booked in the Multnomah County Jail on one count each of disorderly conduct in the second degree, misdemeanor harassment and interfering with a peace officer, also a misdemeanor.  He is being held on $5,500 bail.

Police did NOT remove that man from the crowd. The crowd pushed him out and gave him to police. If you are not going to report accurately then don't report at all.

I agree... Funny how the media doesin't add in any of the good stuff, or that the other occupiers didin't want that guy once he had broken the nonvoilent rule. Also funny how the media hasint added in that occupiers gave flowers and roses to the cops and smiled and was very kind. Also funny how the media didin't cover that a cop pushed some guy crossing the road because he wasint walking fast enough, so the cop took it upon himself to yell and with great force push the guy, and i'm not even sure this guy was involved with occupy, i think he might have just been some innocent man walking on by to look.

I was there. The guy was handed over by Occupiers. EVERY news story leaves this salient fact out. Why?because He was ousted by us because he broke our promise to resist in a nonviolent manner. The cop got on a horse, as did three other officers, after his injury. The cops then charged these huge animals into the most person-dense area of our group. Somehow, the protesters there stood their ground. The police then backed up for a second charge, but their horses were more moral than they were, and balked. Occupy members did not retaliate, though this officer certainly did. We did nothing violent the entire night. In fact, when the police stood down, and we went back to camp, the police were applauded by the remaining hundreds of Occupiers for their (mostly) peaceful handling of the situation. That doesn't make the news either. Oh - and after we congratulated the police and ourselves, we immediately started cleaning up the camp, and many likely are still at it. It's too bad these facts don't make the news, because they don't fit what seems to be a predetermined "Occupier Persona." Namely, a DruggieHippieAnarchistCommunistLazyMentallyIllHomelessWhiner. The media, through outright manipulation and what they choose not to report. They prove our belief that they're establishment shills, intolerant of a populist movement.

This guy is an idiot. Keep him in jail. Occupy group needs to work harder to weed out this kind of garbage. The Occupy group, Mayor Adams and the PPD have done an amazing job. SF, Denver and Oakland hasn't done as well. I'm so proud of Portland!
