A 33-year-old Hillsboro man was arrested outside a Toys R Us on Hayden Island after allegedly engaging officers with a toy light saber.
Officers responded to the store, located in the Jantzen Beach Center, a little before 10 p.m. on reports that a man had assaulted at least three people with a light saber, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) reports.
Officers arrived to find David Allen Canterbury outside the store swinging the light saber.
One officer unsuccessfully attempted to use a Taser on Canterbury. Another officer was more successful, but Canterbury used the light saber to break one of the Taser wires. Officers were finally able to wrestle him to the ground and take him into custody.
Canterbury was transported to a nearby hospital for a mental evaluation where he was placed on hold and cited on various charges, including assault, disorderly conduct, theft, resisting arrest and interfering with a police officer.
His scheduled court date is Jan. 11.
