A man from the Sweet Home area lost his right to hunt and will have to pay almost $17,000 in fines after a conviction for the illegal hunting of bighorn sheep, blacktail deer and a cougar.

After an investigation by the Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division, Enoch Ray Robertson, 30, was sentenced last week on five counts of wildlife crimes.

The illegal shootings, according to troopers, stem from two instances last spring and another in the fall of 2009, when the animals were either out of season or in the case of the cougar, without a tag.

In the case of the bighorn sheep, investigators estimated the age at 7 years old, with significant horns that rated over 173 points on the Boone and Crocket scale.

In addition to the $16,910 fine and lifetime hunting ban, Robertson will serve six days in jail, 10 days of community service and will be on probation for 40 months.

The court also seized animal antlers, meat and two rifles used in the shootings.

kittykat3544, Your right just look at drunk drivers as an example there is one in Florida I think that has been stopped and charged some thing like 300 times and he still buys cheap cars and drives. This won't stop this guy he will be out poaching again 6 weeks after his vacation in jail.

But Kittycat using your logic is like inferring that people who have a drivers license suspended or revoked would still drive anyway. They wouldn't do that. It would be illegal. And our court system knows what is best. That's why some child molesters get a thirty day sentence and others get 30 years.

Very tru kittykat, just because he gets banned for life means really nothing because he shot and killed without a license or tag anyway. If anything the fines will hopefully keep him broke.

Just because he was fined/sentenced once for poaching doesn't mean he won't do it again.
