After numerous hit and runs, and leading police on a chase where speeds reached in excess of 100 mph, a Portland man was arrested when he crashed into a guardrail south of Salem Tuesday morning, Oregon State Police said.
Adrien Arin Chase, 32, was booked into the Marion County Jail on reckless driving, felony attempt to elude, six counts of endangering another person and four counts of failing to perform the duties of a driver involved in a property damage accident.
Just after 11 a.m., troopers were notified to be on the lookout for a hit-and-run vehicle on Interstate 5 near Tigard. Another report came in just seven minutes later.
After two more non-injury hit-and-run crashes between Wilsonville and Donald, an OSP trooper spotted the car about 20 miles south of Portland and attempted to stop the driver when a 41-mile chase ensued.
While the trooper was following Chase, he was alerting other authorities about the car’s whereabouts. Marion County deputies and Salem police officers quickly joined in pursuit, said Gregg Hastings, an OSP spokesman.
Chase was driving at speeds of 100 mph and rear-ended another car six miles from where he crashed into the guardrail. The Nevada driver that was struck left the scene, but spokesman Gregg Hastings said police are hoping to speak with that person.
Albany troopers deployed spike strips near milepost 239, but Chase tried to exit and crashed into the guardrail on the south side of the road. Trooper Jeff Leighty drove to the corner of the Chase’s car, pinning it between the guardrail and patrol car.
Chase was taken into custody without further incident.
