OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) — The Clackamas County sheriff's office says it has suspended a search in a rugged Oregon forest area for a Portland woman missing from her home since Oct. 6. A search effort that began Saturday when 47-year-old Lidiya Russu's vehicle was found in the rain-soaked Mount Hood National Forest has turned up no sign of her.
Sheriff's officers said Tuesday they talked to Dr. Terri Schmidt and other experts in wilderness survival. They say given the heavy rain, high winds and temperatures in the 30s and low 40s, any likelihood that the woman has survived is outweighed by the risk posed to searchers in the rugged terrain.
The mother of six is reported to have left home wearing just a house dress and flip-flop sandals.
