PORTLAND, Ore. - Not one, but two powerful wind gusts were enough to topple a massive tree along NW Cornell Road just west of the Audubon Society early Thursday evening.
The tree covered all lanes after taking with it two live power lines, causing a small fire. Fire crews were called and quickly extinguished the flames.
The road was closed for most of the evening, as drivers were forced to turn around and take a long detour through the west hills.
Elsewhere, as expected, the rain mixed with fallen leaves creating for a slick and soupy mess for commuters.
The city's leaf service is doing its best to unclog storm drains and catch basins, but city leaders are depending on citizens to do much of the dirty work themselves.
If you see a drain backed up, you are asked to take a rake and move the leaves.
