A hit-and-run crash between a car and a motorcycle in Northeast Portland sent the cyclist--Zupan's Markets founder John James Zupan--to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Monday night, reports Portland police.
Portland police spokesman Pete Simpson said Edy Porfirio Reynoso-Ramirez was driving east on Marine Drive, speeding, driving erratically and passing other vehicles prior to crossing the center line and crashing into Zupan's motorcycle head-on.
Ramirez, 32, initially fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended, Simpson said.
Zupan was transported to an area hospital and remains in critical condition Tuesday.
Ramirez was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and charged with second-degree assault, DUII, failure to perform the duties of a driver and reckless driving.
The incident was reported to police just before 8 p.m. at the intersection of Northeast 138th and Marine Drive.
