Washington Capitals star forward Alex Ovechkin suffered an upper-body strain in Sunday's overtime loss to the Blue Jackets and the team is listing him as week-to-week.

Early in the second period of the 5-4 loss, Ovechkin fell to the ice after colliding with Columbus' Raffi Torres. Ovechkin was initially said to be day- to-day.

The league's leading goal-scorer in each of the last two seasons, Ovechkin currently tops the NHL in points (14 goals, nine assists).

He has missed just two games due to injury in his first four seasons. The fifth-year forward is expected to miss Washington's contest against the Devils on Wednesday.

The two-time reigning MVP underwent an MRI exam Monday and will travel with Washington during its two-game road trip to New Jersey and Florida.
